abstract

conclusion there was no association between hhv-8 and mf or lpp in iranian population. this is in accordance with most of the reports from different countries. results the investigated samples consisted of 13 patient with mf, 10 patients with lpp, and 23 patients with chronic dermatitis; the diagnosis of these skin conditions were confirmed histopathologically. the rt-pcr could not detect hhv-8 dna sequence in any of the examined samples, ie. mf, lpp, and chronic dermatitis. the pcr results for all kaposi sarcoma samples were positive for hhv-8 genome. background the association of the human herpes virus 8 (hhv-8) with mycosis fungoides (mf) and large plaque parapsoriasis (lpp) has been assessed previously and contradictory results were reported. although it was investigated in different countries and different ethnic groups, there was no study concerning iranian population with these lymphoproliferative diseases. objectives we aimed to assess the association of hhv-8 with mf and lpp in biopsy samples of iranian patients with these lymphoproliferative conditions. patients and methods paraffin-embedded samples from patients who were diagnosed by histopathological examination as mf or lpp were assessed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (rt-pcr) in a molecular epidemiology case-control study. primerdesign genesig kit for hhv-8 genomes was used to extract total dna. samples from chronic dermatitis were used as control; five samples from patients with kaposi sarcoma were used as positive control in pcr.

High association of human herpesvirus 8 in large-plaque parapsoriasis and mycosis fungoides.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the presence of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) in lesional skin of German patients with large-plaque parapsoriasis (LPP) or mycosis fungoides (MF). The pathogenetic relevance of HHV-8 in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma is controversial. Recently, a highly significant association of HHV-8 in LPP was found, which suggests a role in the pathogenesis of this disease. DESIGN Retros...

Association between mycosis fungoides and human herpes virus 8: A case-control study

Background: Mycosis fungoides is the most common type of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Its etiopathogenesis, despite numerous studies, remains unclear. Environmental, viral, and genetic factors have been proposed as its potential etiologic factors. In recent years, viral agents of herpes virus family such as human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8) have been noticed. Objective: The aim of this study wa...

The conundrum of parapsoriasis versus patch stage of mycosis fungoides.

Terminological confusion with benign dermatosis, such as parapsoriasis en plaques, makes it difficult to diagnose mycosis fungoides in the early patch stage. Early diagnosis of mycosis fungoides (MF) is important for deciding on type of therapy, prognosis and for further follow-up. However, until recently, there has been no consensus on criteria that would help in diagnosing the disease early. ...

A retrospective study of the probability of the evolution of parapsoriasis en plaques into mycosis fungoides.

Parapsoriasis en plaque has been suggested to be an early manifestation of mycosis fungoides (cutaneous T-cell lymphoma). We explored the disease course of patients with small plaque or large plaque parapsoriasis in a 26-year retrospective cohort analysis of 105 parapsoriasis patients, who were clinically and histopathologically followed up in Helsinki and Tampere University Hospitals. Eventual...

Bath-water PUVA therapy with 8-methoxypsoralen in mycosis fungoides.

PUVA therapy is widely used for early stage mycosis fungoides. While the efficacy of PUVA with oral 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) is well documented, the use of its topical variation, bath-water PUVA therapy with 8-MOP has not been studied. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of 8-MOP bath-water PUVA therapy in adult patients with early stage mycosis fungoides. We retrospectively eva...
